On paper, a relationship between a 45 year old man and a 19 year old who the man met when she was 12, sounds like grooming and strange but when you see them together and the complete adoration in Celine’s eyes, you know that her love for Rene is as pure as love itself.

Given all that they went through together, it is clear that what they shared was true love. By the time they crossed that line into romance (after Eurovision), she was a consenting adult - 20 years old. She knew her heart and who she wanted. She loved him and he fell in love with her. Rene was free, Celine was free. And the love they shared survived 28 years - busy careers, children, his heart attack, his cancer, etc. Their relationship was far more real than many other celebrity romances ... and it lasted until they were parted by his death. RIP Rene.

There is no doubt in my mind that Celine was and is madly and irrevocably in love with her late husband. He is the only man she has ever known in that sense. Her grief is real and her love is as well.

However if something is black it is black. If something is white it is white. The fact that Rene met a talented beautiful 12 year old aspiring singer with a voice of an angel and he did everything he could to turn a child into a multimillion dollar diva is still a fact. He groomed her in every way. And I do not doubt their story and that they did not become romantic partners until she was of age, it is still evident that she was his golden goose and he almost literally raised her to be perfect and his in every way.

I know they built an empire and a family that seems to function normally. I can look past the grooming and the divorce and the children that are Celine’s age because it seems that Celine was happy and in love. This doesn’t take away from the ill intentions Rene had from the moment he met her.

Celine's mother did not approve of her dating Rene not just because of the 26 year age difference but also because Rene had already been married AND divorced TWICE and he already had 2 children, one of which is the same age as Celine. But Celine was old enough to date who she wanted and didn't care what people thought. Their love was genuine and their marriage was until death do us part. They had 3 boys together. At least her marriage was more normal than Anna Nicole Smith's marriage to that REALLY old man! To this day she does not regret being married to Rene. However, today she admits that if she saw any of her sons dating a woman that much older than them. She'd tell that woman, "Get your hands off my son!" Celine was young then and didn't understand why her mother couldn't be happy for her falling in love with a man and not caring about the age difference. But now that Celine is mother herself, she fully understands how her mother felt back then. As they say, there are certain things about your parents that you won't be able to understand until you have a child of your own.

Funny how people comment their marriage and relationship etc. Celine said herself "I fell in love long before that" or something like that...meaning she had feelings for Rene when she was what? 16? 17? Why people treat Celine like she was an innocent angel from Heaven..pure and untouched etc etc. I'm pretty sure every young girl at some point has a crush on "adult" man? I remember when I was 17..I was madly in love with a man who was in his mid 40s at that time.
