If every Japanese name and kanji has a meaning, it would make more sense to find out the MEANING of your (English) name and assign the appropriate kanji based on your name’s meaning.

It won’t sound like your name, but it would definitely match its intended meaning.

my recommendation: don't use kanji at all. use katakana. if you have a foreign name, it is much better to use katakana to write your name out, as kanji can be read with several different sounds. if you use katakana, people will immediately recognize it as a foreign name and not try to pick through the many pronunciations of a single kanji just to find it.

I usually write my name as カタリナ in Japanese but after watching this video i made a new spelling for it and it's 花媠莉愛. The first kanji can be read as ka and means flower. The second kanji can be read as ta and can mean beautiful. The third kanji can be read as ri and means jasmine.The fourth kanji can be read as na and it can mean love.

What if your name is an object or, in my case, a plant? Would this still apply, or would people call you by your "object"s actual word? For example, Fern. Would they just be called "Fern" (but translated to said language) or would the rules that applied to Micheal still apply here?

My name is Riley, so it becomes Rairi, so that means it would be 羅異利, correct? I'm a little confused to why there are 3 kanji for a name that is shorter than Michael and has the same syllables though
Also, the meaning of each Kanji, if stretched, describe me
羅: Lightweight fabric or clothing; I am very lean and as a result do not weigh much, I also have an interest in fashion design
異: Change, differences; I dislike big change despite the fact I understand change is inevitable, I also am considerably different to peers in my ways of thinking
利: Advantage, Benefit, Profit, Interest; When I was younger I was picked on by those bigger than me, so I would take advantage of dirty tactics to benefit me in those situations, I dislike losing/spending money and will pick up even 5 cent pieces (the coin worth the least in my country), and if I'm interested in something I will learn as much as I can about it to the point of obsession (does not apply to living humans, those throughout history is another story)

I was also told that names can be converted to kanji by their meanings. So I have a Latin name and it means luck and happiness. Taking that, there are many ways my name could be written. Is this correct, or is that considered wrong and non-Japanese people should not do that at all?
