Sir Alex is around the same age as me late dad. Been watching and following him since '92. Didn't realize how big he was in my life until he announced his retirement for real in 2013. I actually cried.

He protected his players and he protected us from heartbreak in football as much as he could and provided us with so much joy and reasons to celebrate for the vast majority of my entire life. I was a student at Aberdeen University in the 80's when Aberdeen were at their peak. And even though I'm a Celtic supporter I used to go and watch Aberdeen about a dozen times a season because they were so good. SAF was a magician. Even if you didn't support his sides it was hard to deny how good he was.
