I love how when they talk about trees there is always a Sudowoodo somewhere

My wife used to work at a summer camp that had a huge, old weeping beech tree on the property - it was so widespread, they would use the canopy of it to tell stories in shade. What was interesting about it was a number of the branches would grow outward for about 10-20 feet and then seem to re-root and sprout back up. So I always assumed (for that species anyway) that it did serve a purpose of spreading out for access to nutrients.

Understandable. When I was a teenager hormones made me weep too

Lmao love the distinction between the emo trees and the happy trees. They're so cute.

My grandmother has a weeping willow. Ever since I could remember that tree has stood there. And I've climbed it. Tied swings to it. Piñatas for parties and watched ants on it's trunk. Weeping willows really do hold a very special place in my heart.

It'd be cool to see a video on the Banyan tree and why it has so many separate trunks. It's such a cool and unique tree.

This channel is making me weirdly into trees.

holy cow. a a video that answers it's title question and then stops. without any pointless tangents, unneeded backstory, or other filler so many people feel compelled to add to their videos.

THANK YOU for respecting my time.

I am convinced that with the increase in humam numbers, procreation through "huh, neat" is absolutely a viable evolutionary strategy. Examples include dandelions, burdock, and apparently willows, too.

I love the weeping willow's name in English. In Spanish it's called sauce llorón (saw-seh yoh-rohn), which translates as "crybaby willow" :'(

I'm very happy that you covered this! Willows are my favorite kind of tree, in my childhood home we had one that I loved so much. I don't know what kind it was but it's leaves and shape were so beautiful

I’m weeping since Sudowoodo is apparently extinct 😢

There are a few species of Willows which grow in a prairie reserve at my community college. The small Sandbar Willows form bunches and bundles together which tend to crowd out other plants. The ones that grow old enough to actually resemble a tree don’t exactly look like a weeping willow, but they do get all twisty and spread out instead of growing taller and taller. Perhaps because they grow near the edge of water, getting too tall could make them unstable.

Ok, I get it now, people are just down bad for emo’s sometimes

Before watching the video: my understanding had always been that the weeping variant basically turns the tree into a giant, photosynthetic dome that can get good sun in virtually any place they set root.
Interesting to know most of them are unknown in origin, with some being generated by human.

So basically, the only reason these trees exist in mass across the world is because a long time ago, a bunch of people saw a few of them and went, “ITS BEAUTIFUL 🤩!”.

The end reminded me of a documentary and book called "The Botany of Desire". The premise was that plants adapt to our needs/wants through close association with us over time and that those adaptations spread the plants genetics, sometimes worldwide. The examples given were apples, potatoes, and cannabis. Very interesting video. 🤔🤓🍻
