New legislation announced today in Sacramento would prevent school districts across the state from telling parents their students identify as LGBTQ+. Supporters of the legislation call it a “forced outing,” and say they’re trying to protect the rights and identities of those children. KPBS Education Reporter M.G. When my dad found out I was gay he kick me out of the house. I wouldn't wish that on any LGBT youth. Think about the violence children can face from a bigoted parent. We need to protect them.

I’m a liberal and to be honest, I don’t know how I feel about this. On one hand, I absolutely know what it’s like to be a child living in home where I don’t feel safe to be open with my parents. On the other hand it is somewhat odd that schools can keep secrets from parents.
