Phillip Schofield admits relationship with ‘younger male colleague’ at ITV

Phillip Schofield has resigned from ITV after admitting he lied about a relationship he had with “a younger male colleague” at This Morning.

The veteran TV presenter, 61, said that the affair began while he was still with his wife Stephanie, adding he was “very, very sorry” for having been unfaithful to her.

Last weekend he announced he was stepping down from presenting the ITV daytime show with “immediate effect”.

Schofield, who also co-hosted Dancing On Ice with Holly Willoughby, said he would also step down from presenting the British Soap Awards, his last public commitment.

In a statement released through the Daily Mail, the presenter apologised for lying about the relationship.

“The first thing I want to say is: I am deeply sorry for having lied to them (the Daily Mail), and to many others about a relationship that I had with someone working on This Morning,” he said.

“I did have a consensual on-off relationship with a younger male colleague at This Morning.”

He added that “contrary to speculation” the relationship was “not illegal”.

What are the chances that his bosses at ITV and Holly did not know what he was upto?

My guess there is a high probability that they knew, because as a member of the public who has no clue to what happens at ITV or between Phillip Schofield and his love interests, I knew about Phillip and the runner on the show ages ago.

The first time the story reached the public domain was when Phillip came out as being gay, most likely to distract the media from running with the real story between Phillip and his young colleague.

I should point out that the youngster in this fiasco has had his life ruined and I suspect his mental health seriously affected. So where is the apology from Phillip and ITV for what they done to this young person?

What’s he done wrong? So he had an affair with a younger man whilst he was married? If the man in question was over the age of 18 it’s got nothing to do with anyone else. He cheated on his wife…. Again that’s their business not everyone else’s. Schofield could have come out in the 2010s. It would have been fine. The UK is not as homophobic as it was in the 90s and early 2000s. However Phil chose to hide rather than be a brave LGBT Champion.
