Intermediate Ski Lesson #4.3 - Line Choice

Looking ahead and not at your feet can transform how you ski. You'll be more aware of your surroundings and there'll be less surprises so you can relax and enjoy your skiing.

By choosing a line down a ski slope you can often turn it from nasty to nice. You can look for the right slope, the best snow and avoid obstacles early. Look ahead, ski it as a slope and choose a line that's right for you.

Check out the Ski School Apps on the iTunes Store:
Download the apps and remember for your safety that they are a supplement, not a replacement to on-slope tuition with a qualified ski instructor.

Many instructors say more or less the same thing, however I think you are one of the most eloquent. You manage to pass this knowledge in a briliantly simple and easy to understand way. Keep up the good work. I found the videos very useful.

People don't realise how important this is it will improve body position tenfold. Often by looking further forward and lots of other problems will disappear.Glad you enjoyed the films Darren

Yes I do recommend servicing skis regularly and lot of people think it is just four straight line speed but if the base has less resistance it will help you turn. When it comes to choosing wax it depends on snow conditions.

I had the same bad habit, but since I don't look at my skis I have had a good improvement, more edging and I don't need to lift my internal ski while turning, that was always jamming into the snow. Now I'm focusing few meters in front of me, too much concentrate on evaluating the snow (good, heap, ice, ...), and I have to learn - as said in this video - to look down the slope.

Yes! the problem has been every time we have been filming there hasn't really been any ice, it is pretty much at the top of our list.

There is lots of snow so I'm sure your skiing trip will be fine, keep a look out for me when you're here I hope you have a great holiday.

It will help a lot, it will improve body position balance and line choice, feel what the skis of doing don't look at them.

Most of our 'how to ski' lessons are filmed @SerreChevalier resort in the Southern Alpes of France. Great skiing, beautiful region.

Thank you for all these videos, best ski lessons on the internet!

I'm going to Serre Chevalier in 3 weeks, i'm scared snow conditions get worst with high temperatures, make me wrong !

Have a look at one of my other how to ski films (how to pole plant)the poll plant will help you tackle steeper bumpy slopes hope this helps.

When looking at the slope there are two things you want to see... the ice and the people who are skiing at the same pace as you... If you know where these are you can avoid them... especially the ice is tricky one, but usually observable as there are no proper lines in the snow... the people skiing at the same pace might be hard to spot and for this reason I typically take a small look backwards when starting the turn... mostly when the pace is such that equally fast skiers can be expected.

Ski poles are usefull for more advanced skiers using the "pole Plant" the pole plant help keeps you in the front seat.. it is also good for getting up in powder ... pushing through powder ETC
Hope this helps :)

I had also asked this question and this is the reply: We are really trying to make this happen but at the moment it is a very costly affair we will get there.

I'll be in Chantemerle. I think i saw Darren a couple of time above the "Serre-Ratier" giving lessons last year.

I was wondering if you think it's worth the time to wax your skis? And if you do wax them, what brand do you use, and what's your opinion on fluorinated wax?

Great videos by the way, and thanks.

I was here but in a slightly different clothing. We haven't filmed any race technique but may be it is something we will do in the future!
