Part 35: In this episode we look at how to create new terrain tags, and add new types of encounters on those terrain tiles! In this video we'll add a new Desert type of terrain, and have wild Pokemon appear in the sand.

I wish Pokemon Essentials doesn't change so much between versions so guides for older versions can still be useful

Thank you for these. I have discovered that Gimp can also work for editing art so long as you export it to save it as the correct format still.

i know this is old but im using the GSC version of pokemon essentials and every time i run the game with my encounter possible set just like cave's it works but the encounters are over the whole map like cave, but if i try literally anything else including the PBTerrain.isIce? technique it will not start an encounter on the tile. any advice? ive tried like literally everything

I'm using v20.1 and I'm not able to get a custom terrain encounter to work, I know the terrain is working as I've dealt with a ton of different errors and the background has changed to what I want, but for some reason the encounters don't work. I've copied the land_wild_encounters and created a city_wild_encounters to be my custom terrain which is compiling. I also created a new encounter type named City, and then in Overworld_WildEncounters I created a new return if in def encounter_possible_here with the has command and def encounter_posible_here? I can't seem to find what I'm missing to get the terrain to work, the terrain tiles have already been updated to the new ID as well. Any help would be appreciated!

Did not work, does not work on tiles with 18 tag (in my case I used 18) and only show Desert encounters on grass, and it replaces grass encounters even if I don't want to.

is there a way to change the pokemon you can ecounter in a certain area according to your progression, like say when you receive your 3rd badge it unlocks pokemon in certain areas or if you become champion it unlocks a whole unch of pokemon in an area you've been before

Any idea on how to make an item/pokegear function/menu option similar to the pokedex? I want to basically have a photo album. It can be under key items or pokegear or menu... But it's got to have the photos and captions for the photos (simple text). Maybe an interface similar to pokedex if that's easier to emulate.

Can I use this to just make more grass, so that I can have different encounter percentages in different grass patches on the same map? It seems like that would be true. I'm gonna try it out

oh yeah, gotta have some new encounter types, create certain battles with weather conditions, like Desert Battles in Unova with sandstorm in play or battling in swamps with rain in play by default, i approve of this video a lot.

just a question though, how do i create a battle event with a wild pokemon where running isnt an option, say being stuck in a hole with an angry pokemon coming at you?

Followed these steps and got "Script 'PField_Encounters' line 227: SyntaxError occurred." between changing the script and launching the game to change the terrain tags. Any ideas what has gone wrong and how I can fix it?

How to edit a different tileset's terrain tags? I can't seem to change the tileset from the Outside one.
EDIT: Nevermind! I found it. You have to press "Shift"
