After watching Mahua Moitra's excellent speech in Parliament and reading the comments here, one can clearly see that while most people congratulated her wholeheartedly, some odd voices raised the question, "If Mahua is so gutsy and honest, how can she be in TMC party? How can she turn a blind eye to the havoc wrought in West Bengal today?". Whatever be the intentions of the questioners, this is a pertinent question and I shall attempt to answer this. It's a fact that TMC is an extremely corrupt party which has almost destroyed Bengal. Mahua, as we see her in her best in the Parliament, is a complete mismatch there. She is ambitious and, I assume, she returned to India to do good politics and reach great heights. First, she was sidelined by the mean-minded satraps of Congress party who felt threatened by her dazzle. The supremo of TMC – an astute opportunist as she is – saw her potential, took her in, and has been showcasing her since for personal image building. It's a toxic symbiosis which is both derogatory and sad for Mahua. She deserved much better. Now a hypothetical question. Tomorrow if Mahua Moitra leaves TMC, forms her own party based on meritocracy and honesty, how many Bengalis or Indians will vote for her party? How many will actively participate to propel her to an important leadership position? I don't think even 1% of the mostly dumb electorate. It is a sad reflection of the terrible trap in which we – a tiny minority of educated, cultured and conscientious Indians – are caught with no reprieve in sight. We are helpless spectators in a lost country.
