How forty years of reform and opening up have transformed China

China’s economy has developed more rapidly than any other country in history. It went from a poverty stricken nation in the late 1970s to the engine of growth it is known as today. The rapid economic growth emerged from the vision late paramount leader Deng Xiaoping, who introduced capitalist reforms into a communist planned economy in 1978. In the 40 years since Deng’s ‘reform and opening up policy,’ China has completely transformed. But the development has come with a price and created new challenges.

I totally admire Deng Xiaoping. If the Soviet Union had a leader like him, it would still exist. He did the 180 degree turn just in the perfect moment, where the alcoholics in the moscow politburo didn't recognize what really is going on.

Huge income inequality is an issue facing pretty much ALL countries. Nothing will get done about it because the rich and powerful don't see it as a problem. They're rich, so what do they care? It would be nice if China could show the rest of the world that it is important to care.

Chinese rulers never count heads instead they chop them off. It's been like that since time immemorial and it will always be like this hopefully not in perpetuity. Say I'm wrong and democracy is the right way well China tried with it back in 1912 right after the fall of the Qing Dynasty and what did they get? Disintegration, humiliation, civil wars, famine, murder and rape. Socialism although not without its faults brought China unity of purpose. Although not knowing what those purposes were at first but once they got their acts together.. voila!
