Japan has gone a long way honing its solid rocket booster technologies. The history goes back decades to 1955, when the very first pencil rocket successfully launched. JAXA’s Epsilon launch vehicle embodies all that – heritage and improvement ever furnished to the entirety of the rocket and launch system. Aboard it flies with satellites of various functions, including Earth observation, space science and exploration. The third Epsilon, slated for launch from the JAXA Uchinoura Space Center in Kagoshima on January 17, 2018, will send ASNARO-2 into orbit.
