There is this simple module called "Person Sensor" that is designed solely to detect when it sees faces(but not track or identify them), and it would be perfect for this.

I spend way too much time on my phone, especially when I’m supposed to be working on other projects. And looking at the other posts, I’m not alone. Slim this design down a bit and you got something real marketable here.

Use a arduino nano and instead of a breadboard, use a custom pcb or just solder it on the air. You can also adjust the ldr sensitivity from the code so that it has to detect more light before counting upwards so you can use a smaller cover for the LDR.

2:04 i have been probably using my phone few hours less than usual after i switched to a phone with smaller screen. the funny thing is that i don't feel any major withdrawal symptoms. when i still had my bigger phone i felt very uncomfortable when i wasn't using it as much. also typing on this smaller screen is much more comfortable. 🙂
