CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman) pulls a gun on Rick (Humphrey Bogart) in an effort to get the travel papers, but ends up confessing her love for him.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
One of the most beloved American films, this captivating wartime adventure of romance and intrigue from director Michael Curtiz defies standard categorization. Simply put, it is the story of Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart), a world-weary ex-freedom fighter who runs a nightclub in Casablanca during the early part of WWII. Despite pressure from the local authorities, notably the crafty Capt. Renault (Claude Rains), Rick's cafà (C) has become a haven for refugees looking to purchase illicit letters of transit which will allow them to escape to America. One day, to Rick's great surprise, he is approached by the famed rebel Victor Laszlo (Paul Henreid) and his wife, Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman), Rick's true love who deserted him when the Nazis invaded Paris. She still wants Victor to escape to America, but now that she's renewed her love for Rick, she wants to stay behind in Casablanca. "You must do the thinking for both of us," she says to Rick. He does, and his plan brings the story to its satisfyingly logical, if not entirely happy, conclusion.

"Go ahead and shoot. You'll be doing me a favor."
What a line! Every time I hear it it feels like my heart is ripped out.

Concerning Ingrid Bergman's accent: I don't know if it is common knowledge these days, but four years prior to this performance she did not speak any English at all. She started to learn English when she went to America in 1939. Before that she had made several films in Swedish (her native language) and one in German (her mother's native language). Later in her life, she learned and acted in Italian and French. She sure must have had a good ear for languages.

What a magnificent actress Ingrid Bergman was! She absolutely nailed every scene she was in in "Casablanca".

Imagine hearing your husband is dead, trying to move on with your life, finding a love that you never really felt for your husband, and then learning your husband is alive, there was nothing to move on from, and you can never be with your new love. A truly impossible situation, and Ingrid Bergman captures its raw pain and suffering splendidly. You believe every emotion she is expressing and trying to repress at the same time.

What a magnificent actress Ingrid Bergman was! And the music by Max Steiner in this scene from "Casablanca" underscores the drama in this scene between Bogart and Bergman so superbly well! Genius is a word too loosely tossed about these days, but what a music genius Max Steiner truely was!

I've seen Casablanca at least a hundred times. There's so much perfection in everything. The dialogue, the acting, the irony... Yes, Casablanca is for movies what Hamlet is for Literature. A Masterpiece. If I have ever seen a great couple acting, this it them. Bogart and Bergman

I'm now in my '70s and have seen them all-even silents-and this still comes the closest to perfection in my eyes. Acting, Directing, Writing, Scenery, Production and of course excellent score from the best in Hollywood at that time, Hans Steiner.

"Casablanca" They're madly and bitterly in love and fighting it together. Oh...It's her tender feelings and his feelings for her since she left him there in train station with a letter in the rain. After all these years, she still love him (he love her too) and he is her last Hope.

Just rewatched this movie for the second time and found out why it’s considered one of the best movies of all time. It has amazing script writing, great dialogue and background music during the scenes like this one.
