What is Pythagoreanism? (Philosophical Position)

Показать описание
Pythagoras may be known for their mathematics today, but in the ancient world, they were better known for their philosophy (and arguably, Pythagorean triples can be found as far back as Babylon). This video covers Aristotle's "So-Called Pythagoreans", including Philolaus and the Pythagorean table of opposites

Pythagoras didn’t eat animals, he most certainly ate beans. Avoiding beans was referring to politics, they voted with beans.

Your voice dies off, I don't hear the end of most sentences, what do you call that?

Hi, great video thank you! I suspect that Pythagoras inherited his ideas from the Egyptians, similarly to Plato and Aristotle hence the overlap in philosophy.

Yes, please! And wasn't it Thales who said 'That which is alive is capable of spontaneous motion'? I can think of a number of applications to this aphorism, even if it can be scientifically proven to be objectively false.

_Pythagoras spent 20yrs. studying in Egypt._

_What did he learn there that would have helped him w / "his" theories AND why not go to Babylonia to study ? / ?_

Philosophical Vegetarianism of pythagorians did not unfortunately survive the mainstream philosophy(of socrates etc).
This vegetarian part of pythagorians philosophy is definitetly not outdated and was rather way ahead of his time.

Unity / Plurality
Right / Left
Male / Female
Straight / Crooked
Light / Darkness
Good / Bad

Seems pretty straightforward to me.

Little to no historical evidence for those Neopythagorean claims? Read Algis Uzdavynis. Plenty of evidence in work.
