Microsoft Word: Re-arrange pages and content the easy way

Показать описание
Microsoft Word doesn't have a method for dragging and dropping pages if you want to re-arrange pages or content. One easy method to get around this is to drag and drop your heading styles using the navigation pane. Another method, if you aren't using style headings is to select using the Shift key and cut and paste.

Chapters:
0:00 Intro
0:16 Navigation Pane
0:51 Style headings
2:33 Select with the Shift key

Thank you sir, no one tells you that you cannot drag pages to different locations in the navigation pane. After a lot of frustration, I finally got the answer! Appreciate the help.

Chris, I don't usually make comments, but your video was clear, well explained and worked like a charm. Thanks a lot for posting such good stuff.

Excellent video - thank you. There is another shortcut that can be used. If we highlight the selected text and hold Shift+Alt, we can use the up and down arrows to move the highlighted text. Note: this will move the whole paragraph, even if you only select text within the paragraph. I found this very useful when I wanted to move text up and down within an outline, but it works with just normal text also.

LIFESAVER. I noticed at the end of a huge project that my Reference and Appendix sections were in the wrong order. This included lots of text and images. I simply gave each of them a styled heading and move it. Literally a 60 second fix, which saved me copying and pasting and reediting images mixed in with text.

Thank you so much.

The styles & navigation method is by far the best. A document of any size needs a structure and the ability to see that structure in the navigation pane is pretty much a necessity. A custom style takes time to set up, modifying one of the existing and making it your own, that's worth the time to learn. From a productivity perspective I find this to be the best ROI for your time if new to MS Word.

Great tip. Being able to shift items in the outline /navigation panel is great. Can you also delete whole parts in the same panel?

FYI this doesn't work (moving sections via headings in the navigation pane) on WORD for MAC. On a MAC use the outline view- make sure the outline menu is visible at the top- put it to the heading level you want (I use heading 1) and then you can drag and drop in that top outline menu that shows up. This allows you to easily move huge text in moments with no risk. (Cut and paste is not a good way to do it with substantial text- like a book, dissertation, etc)

That’s just copying and That’s no moving the page.

Thanks Chris,
However, since my document was largely built-up out of text frames, none of these methods worked for me.

I found a very good workaround though:
Export to PDF, install PDF24 (windows) and sort with ease!

Hi, Dear, Chris. I copied YouTube transcript and pasted on Word file. How could I quickly delete all the spaces to form a formal word file? Instead of delete the spaces one by one. You know what I mean.

There does not seem to be a video that will tell you what to do if you your view is different.
