USAID Under Fire — But Are the Claims Legit?

USAID was one of the most accountable agencies, with numerous checks and balances monitoring its spending, according to a former administrator at the agency.

In an interview with '60 Minutes,' Andrew Nastios described that the information Trump and Musk claim is proof USAID is misappropriating or 'wasting' funds is 20 years old, and much of the staff were qualified individuals making sure money wasn't stolen.

What actually happened is USAID had an open investigation/complaint against Musk over the Starlink contracts and him pulling access from Ukraine in a warzone. If he had done so out of the "kindness" of his own "heart", he would have possibly had the authority to pull it whenever he deemed it necessary, but he didn't. USAID paid for those terminals, and Musk decided not to provide a service he had been paid for because he didn't like that Russia was being put on the back foot. The same goes for every other department Musk has claimed "fraud" over. Every one of those departments abd department heads that have been attacked or forced to resign were all investigating complaints against Musk's companies for violating laws, regulations and even terms of those specific contracts. The only waste and fraud linked to all of those departments is Musk himself. Cutting these departments are going to COST taxpayers more money in the long term because they are going to cause so much damage and chaos that will have to be fixed. This first round of attacks are purely motivated by revenge for daring to question the richest man in the world. The next round will also COST more money to the average American taxpayer, as the things they will gut are the services you and I (but not Musk) depend on and pay into. Those will be cut to pay for a tax cut worth BILLIONS that will only go to the top 1%. As in "I know you paid into social security your whole life, but we decided that Musk needed that money more than you". And "I know that you pay taxes for disaster relief, and your children's education, and bridges, and the interstate highway system, but we decided to forgo funding any of that with your hard earned money and will instead give it to Musk, Bezos, and Zuckerberg. Even though YOU paid proportionally more into it because the wealthiest have access to tax loopholes that let them skate around paying almost any taxes." This isn't efficiency. It's kleptocracy. I worked in Afghanistan in concert with usaid. I didn't see any waste. What I saw was grift by halliburton/Kellogg Brown and root, building A multi-billion-dollar embassy that would have cost less than 500 million if anyone else had built it. USA ideas are soft power. Soft power is way better than hard power. It's much more cost-effective and it works.
