I was watching the conductor from the the moment Elisey walked on, and it seemed at first he was a little formal and tense, perhaps unsurprisingly having an uncertain expectation of so young a musician. Then as the music progressed he began to smile. He felt the joy of certainty, a confidence he was in the company of an already accomplished professional who really feels the music. The music flourished, the musicians gained heart, the performance became art. Perfection comes closer - never quite to be reached because we are but human, but to strive, to feel, to edge that bit ever closer - that is human too.
