Last night while listening to this song, I had a realization. He never even watered her, based on the video. When you see the tear fall from her eye and hit her in the head, her eyes grow larger. Her own pain and sadness of rejection was what made her grow. She watered herself from her own tears.

When this song came out there was NOTHING but hate for her, this song and this video. The top comment for years was something like “This looks like a sequel to Splice”.
Sometimes you have to wait years for others to catch up. She was that far ahead of the curve.

After almost 4 years, I now understand this song and video. After some hard life experience, I can relate exactly to this. This is the meaning of this: So she speaks of a man who will no longer sleep with her because she wanted more, a relationship ... hence "I've set the fee" And he didn't, he only wanted a part of her, not all of her .. hence "He says it's too much in pounds" He was selfish with her and her feelings. And so she ends up feeling incredibly lonely because he's rejecting the part of herself that needs to be loved the most, her soul. But, he only wants her body. It's extremely lonely when someone only loves part of you. You end up having to put up a mask around them at all times, never truly ever feeling loved. You just feel like your "there to fill space and time". This is the greatest loneliness. She wants him to water her or "water the relationship" so it can grow into something more meaningful and mature and she can prove that she will be good to him and for him. But he disagrees and calls her small "not worth it" When she realizes how disposal she is is to him, she cries. The tear dances around her face for a while and symbolizes she doesn't want to move on, she would rather sit in her loneliness and sadness. This depicts her inability to move on. But then the tear falls from her face and we see it fall back on her head and it symbolically "waters her" She gets bigger and her eyes get bigger as well. Her eyes get bigger because she went through so much pain, she can now see so much more and she's matured. Her eyes can see the truth now. The music gets more intense and brings on a feeling of determination. Her words feel less like a question and more like a statement. She looked to the man to "water her and help her grow" but she never expected her pain and her own self to make her grow. In the end, the struggle gave her insight and the growth she so desperately yearned for. We always think life is going to be perfect and happy....but if we didn't face pain and heartache and loss...we would never be "watered"...we could never grow tall. And it also sends the message that what LOOKS good might not always be good and what looks BAD might not always be bad and we can never see the truth until after. Notice in the beginning how her head moves so much and near the end it gets slower and then at the very end her head stops moving altogether? I believe this symbolizes her vulnerability. She is very "unstable" at the start and once she realizes her truth and in the end she gains strength and stability. She has reached a new level of maturity. Hence why her head can be "still" A part of her childhood innocence and naivety is gone. Her message ....pain is just as necessary as happiness. Neither is good or bad, they just are. Fka sends much a beautiful message if you take time to debunk the video and song, im in awe. If you read this whole thing, props to you!

So many people disliked her videos a few years ago because they were "weird." I remember people bullying her for a long time, but I always knew how beautiful and talented she was/is. I'm glad she is getting more recognition now for how creative she truly is

Her own tears watered her and she became strong and grew through the pain he put her through 🙏

This music video changed my life forever in high school. I’m almost 25 now. Twigs is up there with the likes of Björk for her raw emotional expression and I will forever love them both for it.

FKA Twigs makes music videos like those temporary film exhibit pieces at art museums (the dark room that's all by itself with a projector? That kind of thing). They're not meant to be overt or make total sense. They're eye-catching, but in a way where you're meant to find your own meaning.

It isn't good to call someone "dumb" for not understanding this. Accept it, it's different and complex and not alot of people are used to listen to this kind of music.
It isn't good to call something "garbage" for not being what are you used to. Respect for being respected.
Her talent has nothing to do with who's she dating.
I hope she does well in life.
And yes, i kinda use google translate for some things in this jajajaj <3

this song has a certain aura about it, you feel this deep melancholy void at the pit of your heart and soul thinking about your past lover who has moved on with their lives and you’re stuck thinking about all the times you’ve shared together. now everyday looks cloudy and gloomy in your eyes when they once saw the world in bright colours.

This song always moves me to tears. Such a beautiful song and production. She has this Björk like affect where it feels you’re experiencing a true work of art, not just a song.

I discovered twigs back in 2014 and was instantly blown away by her music. I still love her music but I think this era was her best

Listen closely to what she is saying, when you hear the things she is saying. It is so heart touching and deep I swear to god.

At first I wasn't a big fan of their work. But it's grown on me. She has such an unique voice, and the music is very different from the norm right now. I love how delicate her voice is. And the lyrics are beautiful. Simple, yet say so much. She allows herself to be vulnerable. Even if I can't relate to the story behind the lyrics, I can experience them still because she gives it all and holds nothing back. Definitely rare and refreshing compared to most music out right now. Glad I decided to give her another chance instead of writing her off after listening one time. I think a LOT of people do that, and they miss out on so much great music because of it, I look forward to hearing more music for them in the future!

He told me I was so small, I told him not to let me go.
This is my tragic tale, a 16yo girl fallen into a bad relationship lasted 2years, with a 33years old guy.
He make me listen to this song for the first time in 2014.
Now I understand his narcissism, his abuse, his mental power of play with me.
But I can’t forget the feeling to be rejected from the first love.
