Charanjit Singh - Raga Bairagi

2010 was a year of the weird and wonderful, with releases being unearthed that seem to be made in in a parallel universe. This album, alongside Honest Jons New Wave Dance Music From South Africa, is one of these gems. Plucked from the weird and wonderful esoteric depths is this record from 1982, for long merely whispered about as the 'Acid House Album From India'. It has finally been unearthed, and while rumours abound that it is some high profile electronic producer masquerading as an Indian pioneer, the music within is nonetheless staggering. Couple that with the in-depth information, label, artist of the original press and the original artwork that this gatefold vinyl LP provides; it seems to suggest that this is the real deal.

Droning Indian Ragas are transposed into the circuit boards of Roland's 303/808 machines making for a music that has all the reductionist groove of Acid techno, Ceephax, Phuture 303, Aphex, quite simply amazing.

This release was selected by Bleep for the Mid Year Round Up 2010.

He didnt invent acid….
He was a professional musician with a regular budget so he could get what was profesional instruments at the time… like oscar peterson. A jazz icon with a 606 and 303 at the time…
Charanjit Singh was a bollywood soundtracks producer that got his gear from singapore when it was released and he was literally attempting to make ragas (indian folk music) with just a disco beat instead of tabla players. (He referred tabla players as better or more original choice) but he got the 808 instead……

Acid house precisely was born after this kind of musicians DUMPED their instruments for cheap… some 5 years later…

Nice Song But this is not Acid House, Just because used a 303 for the bass line don't make it acid.
