hahaha the whole smiling at strangers thing is so true!
I live in Australia and we're known to be pretty laid-back and sociable people but when I was visiting my girlfriend in Ohio i learnt pretty quickly that striking up a conversation with a random person on the street wasn't the norm over there.

Texas politics are a good indication of how Texans are. Austin and segments of big cities are the exceptions. And you, Tammy, are an exception too. There is a stereotype of a loud-mouthed Texan who never stops bragging about his great state. Whenever that person shows up on the West Coast (or East) people roll their eyes and laugh.
When I lived in Seattle I heard a joke about a Texan talking loudly in a bar about how everything was bigger and better in Texas. Other bar patrons were getting tired of him but said nothing. And then a guy from Alaska stood up an yelled "Hey, if you don't shut up we'll divide Alaska in two and make Texas the third largest state!" Everyone applauded as the Texan slunk out.

This girl is obviously from a big city or near, cause all of us from rural Texas (which is most of the state) love our GOD, songs, guns and hunting!
