This all only makes sense if you understand that the the lake is at a higher elevation than both the Atlantic and the Pacific entrance at sea level., and that anytime a ship enters or exit either entrance, a lot of water originally from the lake is flushed out to sea. Wish NYT included that "tidbit" in the video.

I understand that the locks are currently gravity fed and every time a boat / ship passes through you "lose" a locks worth of water.
but the water is not gone it is just down hill. put up some solar panels and pump the water back up to the high side.

During my solo circumnavigation, I opted for the Cape Horn route because I didn't want to negotiate the hassles of transiting the canal in a sailboat. Leave that for ship traffic.

I love the content, but I HATE the format. Please get back to horizontal videos!

Inequality for all, at the end of the day, does corporations care what happen to poor people displaced because of their greed ? No they don’t, the canal saves them millions of dollars in fuel and they will keep the canal going no matter what or who has to move somewhere else !

The amazing Panama Canal is a gift that American Colonialism gave the world and the people of Panama. The value is immeasurable, but leave it to the NYT to negatively spin this marvel of engineering and progress, while still shaming the USA. What is going on at the NYT?
