Tithing was spoken of as ‘fire insurance’ when I was growing up in the church in Melbourne Australia. As a child, I was taught by my father about non tithe payers being burned at the second coming. That was a terrifying thought to me and may have been the reason I was such a conscientious tithe payer. Unfortunately all I got from paying tithing was financial hardship. We lived from paycheck to paycheck and were never able to save any money until we STOPPED paying tithing. Ah, the irony!

Makes sense to me. If you don't believe, then by all means don't pay it. I have paid it all my life and it has been a great blessing to me. From my first year of marriage living on 7, 000 dollars to now. I have always had what I needed.

And when they state that we need to pay tithing what they are really saying is we need to pay tithing to the corporation of the church. Giving outside of that institution does not benefit those who do take care of the widow, orphan or those who are in need. Unless that check is made out to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints there is no benefit to that individual just Hellfire and Damnation....lol
