Drawbridge Opens While Car Is Still Crossing

It’s yet another terrifying drawbridge accident. This one happened at the Ocean Avenue Bridge in Lantana, Florida. A motorist sitting on the bridge realizes that it is lifting up, and flings open his door to try and signal the control tower to stop, but the bridge continues to rise. He’s in a tough spot; if he jumps out, he risks falling between the bridge's cracks and into the intercoastal waterway 50 feet below. Suddenly, the car lurches forward and he’s out of danger. The bridgetender has since been fired.

The driver definitely did this on purpose if you watch the full video. He intentionally stopped there and didn’t move his car at all while it was opening.

Out of every spot this person could stop at, he stopped at the bridge. He didn’t even bother to drive a little bit forward. Its like stopping at a train’s track.

It drives me bonkers that every news station is just stupidly ignoring the fact that this dude stopped right in that spot and just sat there.

Imagine getting fired by someone trying scam a lawsuit. The driver stopped there nearly a minute.

The driver stopped right at the line. He could have finished, but he knew this could turn into a lawsuit. He knew EXACTLY what he was doing. He could have seen the sign that the bridge was coming up too. I don’t feel bad for him one bit.

I am a bridge operator in New jersey I can tell you now people do not care when the bridge has to start an opening . People purposely ignore the red signs, loud warning bells and traffic gates . It happens everyday on the job .

That driver was out to lunch. Those bridges open so slowly he had ample time the get across safely. As the bridge opens you can see that the car isn't moving at all. What the hell is the driver doing, napping?

The bridge operator was most definitely NOT at fault for this drivers lawsuit plans. This driver willfully stopped there. Hell maybe they wanted to be able to sue the company in charge of the bridge.

I got a couple takes on this one:
1. Driver wanted a lawsuit (most likely)
2. Driver was attempting to commit suicide but went to the wrong side of the bridge. (They obviously aren't intelligent enough to drive 10 feet forward so it wouldn't surprise me if they thought it opens at the ends rather than the middle.)

The car was not “still crossing” you can see it is literally parked there. The driver is at fault
