Wait, Did i hear correctly ? 500 people per year seems enough warning not to assume that risk... At least for me. The elephant was being an elephant.

There's actually a term for what we just saw. It's called Human Stupidity.

This bull elephant was in musth I am sure, ( in season) and they become very agitated and aggressive as they are in a lot of pain and hormones raging, this is the common cause, but remember too an elephant never forgets, he might have been hurt or traumatized by humans going far back...
A tragic incident, showing how volatile things can play out in the wild

The poor lady, RIP... The problem is people and these smart beautiful wild animals are tortured and abused every day. We don't see that, but we hear about it, and read about it. The poor beautiful wild animals need to be left alone! This is their territory, and they are scared of people showing up and not knowing if they are killers who murder the babies and the elephants tusks to sell. Elephants are not interested in humans and or harming them, this is humans fault and not the wild animal. Wild Animal poaching and killing has to stop! Enough is enough! Leave them alone.

No way I’d ever do some wild safari trip. Animals are unpredictable, period.

As a Kenyan, I urge all tourists to watch all wildlife from a safe distance. The survivors of that vehicle are very lucky that the elephant did not trample it. They are capable and have the mass to follow through.
And for heaven's sake...all tour guides should keep their vehicles on the road.

This is sad, to know that what should have been the adventure of a lifetime ended in tragedy. That being said, is there any point where we as humans can decide that animals like us prefer to be left alone? Can we be humans and leave them alone? It's absurd that we end up blaming the animals when we go there to invade their space.

On my only but definitely not last trip to Africa's amazing national wildlife parks, i did note that some safari vehicle and river boat driver/guides got too close to the animals making them nervous and uncertain. On one occasion we had a herd of elephants all lined up to swim across the Chobe but they were to afraid of the safari boats that were too close for their comfort so they didn't, i was as angry as disappointed at missing that rare spectacle of a herd of elephants all swimming across that wide magnificent river.
