"She is a Llolth-sworn, violence is natural to her! I simply cannot trust someone like that to stay in the same camp with me.
Come on Dark Urge, my dear friend, back me up here"

Without protection from the artifact, Minthara would be back under the Absolute's control. It would be counterproductive in every measure to send her away.

Having Halsin be persuaded as Wyll was persuaded to keep Karlach in camp and not kill should have been what they did to replace this

While I do think Halsin’s ultimatum should’ve been cut, there should’ve been something to replace it. As now they don’t even acknowledge each other. I think it would give another beef to quarrel in act 3 as neither of these two have a side quest.

I love how even if you tell Halsin to go, he still acts nice. He truly appreciates and loves all that you've done for him, Thaniel and the Grove.

It seems like at an earlier point in development, Halsin's past in the Underdark would've played a bigger role. In the final game he doesn't think about it much, it was a long time ago and he might be repressing it.

But here he straight up says that he refuses to stay at camp with a Lolth-sworn drow because he's experienced how cruel they can be.

...Which is odd, given that the MC can be a Lolth-sworn drow and even a Cleric of Lolth. Maybe that's part of why they cut this scene.

I don’t think “breeding” is quite what was said here

This should have remained, just slap a fair Persuasion check to keep both. Minthara makes good points and Halsin's stance is definitely justified. Alignment matters - these characters SHOULD argue - but it's not absolute law.

I think if they kept this scene in, I would've sided with Minthara. Given Halsin's abuse from Llolth-sworn Drow in the past, and Minthara's casual relationship with murder, he's in the right to not trust her right away. But on the other hand, Minthara was manipulated by the Absolute, and like Khaga, she can be convinced to do good... just in a Drow's way of doing it. But the biggest reason is: It just makes more sense for Minthara to stick with Tav/Durge. She has a tadpole, without the artifacts protection, she could end up a puppet of the Absolute again. Meanwhile, Halsin has no tadpole, and therefore isn't as fettered. He doesn't need the artifacts protection and can leave the group if he wanted to. Better to mutually part with the one that can survive rather than cast out the one who can't.

It's really surprising that Halsin is the one throwing an ultimatum, while Minthara is persuading him to cooperate!

Halsin: stick with me, I’m a good person
Minthara: Stick with me because I will stop at nothing to crush our shared enemy

I'm glad they cut this. I dont think it's out of character for Halsin, he can make some prejudiced comments early on if you play a Lolth drow and given the implication that he's repressing serious trauma, him having an outburst here and getting wrapped up in his emotions as a ptsd response would make sense.

My issue is that he is then entirely fine with the drow twins, eager even. Mixed with the baser instincts comment here, it implies that he's fine if they're the ones who are sexual objects this time. He wont see Minthara as a person who can be redeemed like Khaga, but he's totally fine is using the twins for his baser instincts.

Which would kind of interesting if not for the fact we dont unpack it further. I think if Minthara is in the group you should get the ability to gently call him out for the hypocrisy and he can have time to dwell on it. Maybe have a scene or banter where he does tell Minthara he's trying to do better. Maybe not to the point where he'd be totally okay with her but to at least acknowledge himself that he's wrong here.

Halsin: I've given it some thought Minthara. In the past I have chosen forgiveness when someone did the unforgivable, because I know we can all be more than our baser instincts. I should have extended that courtesy to you.

Minthara: I am glad we can put this behind us. You speak of the druid woman yes? I would have slit her throat and hung her from the barricades by her snakes as a warning to all.

Halsin: ... /sighs

Bye Halsin, Minthara has a tadpole. You don't.

Honestly Minthara is the funniest character by far. Keeping her around just to roast NPCs is worth it

Halsin makes the most sense to leave he’s not infected and can live without the artifacts aura

Her leaving kills her. Him leaving has him do whatever he wants. He's wishy washy about your mission and she's mission driven. This is not a choice.

Have a good life Halsin

I wish they had kept this, given you a check to keep them both, explored Halsin's abuse at the hands of drow, and given him a quest to resolve it while he and Minthara slowly grow to mutually respect one another.
