Lexis Nexis - Westlaw - Commercial Database MISCONCEPTIONS/FALLACIES

Commercial database providers... like Lexis Nexis, Westlaw, Accurint, Clear and many others claim to offer comprehensive search functionality. This is not true...

Commercial database providers are limited by the availability of records provided by courts, utility companies, phone companies and other government database providers.

Court access fees severely restrict the ability of commercial database providers to provide court records. Many county courthouses in California (Los Angeles, Orange County, and Riverside just to name a few) charge access fees just to search their records.

In New York the state charges $98 to just search one name through their statewide system for criminal records.

One other database that commercial database providers are severely limited on is DMV records. These must be search directly with the DMV in the state where the vehicle is registered or the person has a license.

Do your research and understand the limitations of commercial database providers like (Lexis Nexis, Westlaw, Accurint & the others).
