The pub analogy would be accurate if that pub had daily visitors in the hundreds of millions.

A part of the President's job is to connect to the country's electorate, so when more and more people in the country (and indeed the world) are connecting to the internet for news and entertainment and in some cases for their employment Glenn Beck predictably complains, though I don't hear his protesting Republican party presidential hopefuls lining up to conduct their election campaigns from the pulpit of their church or make appearances alongside convicted felons and hate groups.
