I enjoyed this video quite a bit. It was concise, informed, and not pretentious. I don't usually comment on videos; however, I'd just like to say that from my perspective, as a former UTK Jazz Performance major (currently a senior studying music business), I have had these ideas drilled into my head for 3 years now. Comparative to your video, I have loads of theory knowledge; I know my triads, 7th chords, all modes, secondary dominants, backdoor 2-5's, teardrop chords, harmonic minor chords, the list goes on. This has not "unlocked" the guitar for me. I still consider myself intermediate at best. I think you missed out on crucial portions of the process, which in my opinion are technique and ear training. Knowing my triads does nothing for me if I can't play them quicky, correctly, and with precision. Knowing the pentatonic scale does nothing for me if I can't play the pentatonic notes in an informed way like Hendrix did. Not hating on your video. I enjoyed it thoroughly. But as a frustrated guitarist who has spent countless hours practicing guitar in this way, I was disappointed to see these concepts called "advanced." I am well-acquainted with all of these concepts and would hardly call myself advanced. Being an advanced guitarist is much more than learning triads. Spoken from someone who valued learning these same concepts discussed in your video for 5+ years, only to just now start realizing that this will only get you so far. Am I projecting? lol

Not sure why you're confused about the CAGED (not a) system. It's names are derived from the chords in the open position, i.e., cowboy chords, a.k.a. the chords every beginner learns. So the C "shape" is the shape of the C chord in the open position that everyone knows. By knowing where the root note is in the chord shape, and the notes on the fretboard, you can now move that shape to any note to play a new chord. C shape moved to the 12th fret = A, 7th fret = E, 5th fret = D, etc, etc. It's quite simple and turns knowing five chord shapes into knowing how to make every Major & Minor chord, in every inversion, across all six stings. Additionally, it's far easier to play over the changes AND to add notes to make more complex chords. If you're not superimposing these chord/arpeggios shapes all over the fretboard, you're doing yourself a disservice. If you are, you're using CAGED.
