Amazing speech. I voted for Reagan in the '84 election. He was the first (and last) GOP candidate I voted for President until Trump in the 2020 election. It took me a while to wake up.

I was a poor immigrant child of 10yo with an older brother and two parents who had no education and couldn’t speak English when Reagan became President - we were military sponsored as an Aunt had married an American GI.

I remember as a child always believing that America simply gave me an opportunity rather than a handout. I admired Reagan so much as a child because he made such clear sense, and it was obvious that he believed what he was saying, so it was easy for me to believe it as well.

My brother and I both grew to become reasonably successful through education and hard work - he is an engineer and I was a trader on Wall St. My parents are still alive and still barely speak English - they worked from the get go in America doing menial jobs, but always worked and provided housing and food for me.

We lived what Reagan promised we could live if we worked for it…he will always be my President.

Dave, that is part of what is known as The Speech that launched Ronald Reagan's political career. "Socialism only works in 2 places; Heaven, where they don't need it, and Hell, where they already have it." I still miss him.
