On The Scene: North Korean residents and soldiers visited a war cemetery to mark the 71st anniversary of the Korean armistice that ended the 1950-53 Korean War, state media reported on Saturday (July 27). In footage provided by the North's official news agency KCNA, which Reuters cannot independently verify, residents and soldiers were seen laying flowers at the Fatherland Liberation War Martyrs Cemetery in Pyongyang. North Korea signed an armistice agreement with the United States and China on July 27, 1953 ending the battle in the three-year war. U.S. generals signed the agreement representing the United Nations forces that backed South Korea.
