Kenya protests: Churches barr politicians to avoid public wrath

Young Kenyans who have been protesting against a controversial bill to raise taxes, plan to set their sights on the clergy.
More than 85 percent of the population is Christian and the church plays a central role in the country’s political landscape.
But as anger grows against President William Ruto, demonstrators say churches with close ties to the government must rethink their stance.

I am not Kenyan. I’m just curious why the president would choose to address the nation in a foreign language (English) instead of the official African language of Kenya (Swahili). The guy got the religious angle wrong. The churches near parliament are catholic and Anglican, which are normally not aligned with government politics and "godliness" in campaign. Ruto is associated with right wing evangelicals mainly linked to the US.
