The Cheetah is all set for a return to India's forests after more than 70 years. Namibia and India have inked a deal to reintroduce wild Cheetahs in India. Palki Sharma tells you more about India's plan.

British are responsible for all the big cats almost getting extinct in South Asia. Cheetahs were unlucky but India took real good care of remaining Lions, Tigers in the east and west, black panthers, lepords in south and Snow leports in the north luckily after they survived.

In 2013, India was among the 13 countries with tiger reserves that decided to double their tiger populations by 2022.
but did it 4 years ahead of the targeted year(in 2018).
Now India homes to ¾th of Global tiger population.
And I believe the numbers of cheetahs will grow up fast as well.

Cheetah went extinct in india in 1950s due to excessive hunting by British..
India requested iran to give Asiatic cheetah ( last remaining Asiatic cheetah live here) but they demanded Asiatic lions in return..
So we decided african cheetah..

I once was licked by a purring cheetah in Namibia. It was raised by farmers so was friendly. You really can feel their growls.

This is a friendly gesture from Namibia, but in my humble opinion India and Iran should work to conserve the cheeta population in Iran as this must have been the same type of cheeta which was found in India.

India is the only country to have both Tigers and Lions ( also leopards, including Snow Leopards ) . Reintroduction of Cheetahs completes India's wild cat triad .

Jaguars ( Wild Cats -native of Latin America ) are in our Air Force.
