I remember walking down the street on a cold winter night in NYC not far from Times Square, and hearing this tune being played in a record store. Man, was it beautiful. The mood was surreal. Horace stole my heart that night.

I saw Horace Silver in 1967 at the very first UC Berkeley Jazz Festival in Harmon Gym. I was a senior in high school, had been listening to jazz since I was 13-- waaay ahead of my time.

This song was the very first song the quintet played. I WAS IN HEAVEN. I have loved this song since that evening - never grow tired of it - so-ooo many memories of listening to this song throughout the years. What I love about Horace Silver is that he never stops playing, even when the other musicians take their solos, Horace is playing softly in the background along with the drums and the bass. Silver's Serenade is remains my favorite Horace Silver piece although I love many of his pieces. He's just a very special pianist.

Could this possibly be the prettiest arrangement I've ever heard? When l was 20 he did this at a Jazz Festival in my town - Chicago. I was so giddy. Beautiful experience

I got a hold of this little show I used to watch sometimes called Soul! It's developer was a guy named Ellis Haizlit and was PBS and funded by Ford Foundation. They had the creme de la creme of Black entertainment, Sports, Music, The Arts. Mr. Silver was on performing in about 1969-1970 because he was leaving to join his wife who was soon to deliver their only child and I think the child was born in 1970. Mr. Silver performed a little Soul Jazz, Freedom Jazz ... It was beautiful! Mr. Silver was so humble and articulate. He was recovering from some illness ... at any rate it was the Summer of that year that I saw him perform. 😊😊 Mr. Silver must have been early 40s but that guy looked 25.

I heard this great jazz piece on the Ed Love program in Detroit on WDET many years ago. This is one tune that I will always remember.

Musicians from the Hard Bop era composed songs that aspiring artists would want to play in Jam sessions.

I'm old school, officially a senior. I described myself as geeked up during my only Horace Silver experience as a young adult. I've never touched a drug so to have described myself as geeked was wrong. I was giddy and happy for lack of a better word. Judging by a response l received l am not versed on today's language and l readily admit it 😊😃 sorry.
