Make sure when your just paint anywhere you want to paint a union flag, that way if the council paint over it you can claim your culture is being attacked. 😂

So absolutely nobody in the council said a single word about the Union Jack being the problem, but these fragile self-victimisers have decided that's definitely the reason, and not the fact that they didn't get permission to graffiti an advert onto the wall? "Waaah I'm being oppressed!!!111"

The reason they gave was unauthorised advertising ie a breach of advertisement regulations, it’s as clear as day. Mural advertising requires advertising consent from council planners. It’s not the first and it’s not the last, up and down the country murals are painted over all the time for this breach. By adding the Union Jack the owner was trying to be clever by half and ‘culture worriers’ will want to turn this into something that it’s not. It’s either you respect rule of law or you don’t.

Banksy doesn’t paint advertisements, that might be why their work is allowed to remain…or maybe, if you they had sought the required permissions before painting an advertisement onto a building, they might have stood a chance. They are essentially trying to make out that it’s all about the flag, when what they’ve done isn’t a million miles away from building an extension without the required permissions, people who do that either have to gain the permissions retrospectively or if they are violating regulations, they have to tear it down. These people didn’t gain permission for their ad, it may not be possible retrospectively, so they have to paint over it.
