For those wondering, the reason for cutting the corners on the veg is to keep it from disintegrating while they simmer.

Every time I go back to Korea to see my parents/ step parents this is the first meal that I get from my mom. I love this meal. This is what I call comfort food!

Anyone: What's the validity of the 5-minute parboiling to remove the impurities?? I understand that's the "traditional" method, but it seems like another old wives tale that isn't rooted in science. I could and am probably wrong, but wouldn't it be tastier to start by searing the short ribs instead of parboiling?
