I once asked my narcissistic mother after letting her insult me, "Do you really love me?" She responded, "That is a silly question" and basically told me would not behave badly if I just put with her abuse. I used believe that one point, but now I see that just lied to keep using me as a psychological punching bag and narcissistic supply.

Narc mothers are the worst we are always supposed to put our children first. That's never the case with narcissistic mothers you always come last and you're not even thought of other than a burden they want praise for when they haven't done any of the work or helped in any way💯

Now she plays with me when I visit her for christmas. Waited more than 20 years for that and thought that it was my fault for being so "needy" as a child.

I find this is more in situations when both parents work and everyone else takes care of them I'm not saying its the case with everyone but a lot of time work becomes the priority over spending time and loving.
It a balance everything is a balance and a fine line.

I don’t think this short goes deep enough at all! I know it’s hard in a short, but maybe then it shouldn’t be a short…
I think the deeper question is why? Why do parents do that? Is it truly a bad heart? Is it a lack of understanding or training, etc etc… we can blame all day long, but that doesn’t offer a root solution. Root solutions are what are needed now to stop the cycle that is often generations long. Please think deeper than- I’m going to cut my family off! Where does that get us as a society?
