Having a mom who sewed her own clothes and had a gf who made her own sewing patterns. You did a great job with your repurposing design of that top. So what if you found a pair of skorts, or shorts with a complimentary pattern to your top, and made of similar fabric, but in white to coordinate with the white collar, and use the sleeves as front pockets.

You should use the extra fabric to make a headband, twilly for your hair, or even a cute ribbon charm for your bag

When copying clothes that fit you well, make note of the type of fabric you’re replicating. From what I can see the top you were copying, it’s a stretchy one and stretch fabric has negative ease, as indicated with your first try being too tight. And like you said, just adjusting fit as you go on is the way to go really.
