The "dad" is the man that Colby met online, meaning that the "dad" killed his "son" real family. The "dad" isn't really his "dad". He's the man that killed his family and took him, which then he was little and didn't really know and still doesn't know I'm guessing.

The "son" is the little brother of Colby.
