I haven't heard of Lowlife or Not Thundarr, but they both look really cool. I grew up with Thundarr about the same time I discovered Tolkien. It was brilliantly imaginative, and a big influence on us future gamers. I'd love to rp in a world like that. And there are at least a couple of good videos on yt about it.

Basic fantasy is great, I love Old School Essentials to death but there is really no reason to fork cash on that when there is Basic fantasy for free, it just has everything you need in a tight, low cost package, the adeventure modules are also incredibly cool.

Sounds like the Lowlife 2090 uses the Blackhack mechanics. I just ordered the Black Sword Hack new edition which btw has some incredible innovations. I like to play some sort of do-gooders in dystopian games as well. There's something really cool about that 😁

Great reviews! Love that you're doing these in the spirit of Independent RPG month! The only one of these I hadn't heard of what Lowlife 2090.

I really like that you included Barbarians of the Ruined Earth. I followed Mike's blog back in the day when he was developing those ideas and contributed to the first (sadly, unsuccessful) Kickstarter, but he was undeterred and started a second, more modest, campaign that reached its goal quickly. I haven't had a chance to play the system yet, but it looks really fun and I love the artwork (especially the stuff by Kelvin).
