Prigozhin is a movie star. He does resemble Max Schreck in his starring role of Nosferatu which was a silent movie(1922).

Prigozhin was not an oligarch in the 1990s. He owned a restaraunt in St Petersburg. He didn’t start getting his first government contracts for a small company he set up until the mid-2000s.

Prigo has a number of supporters inside the Kremlin and military - a number difficult to determine. You have to understand orc politics. Power is transferred by show of force. The old leaders are devoured by the new leaders. He is bellowing because he believes he has a strong hand. If Putin moved against him, he could signal a coup d'etat that Putin might lose. That would leave Putin at his mercy. Putin is ruthless, but he is not an idiot. He knows he is now very weak, and in no position to antagonize his own base.

You can say he is spared because he is the only one with enough experience and one of the few commanders that have delivered "results". Even if people say that the Wagner Chief is a troll, I think he is quite smart. He is quite a capable commander. Although, he is more self-aware of the situation than the rest of the commanders. He acknowledges that even if he takes cities, he is vulnerable, because of the lack of Russian supplies during the Bajmut campaign. Surely, he took the majority of Bajmut to prove that the failing operation was not in his hands, but from Putin's military staff.

Kimmitt's "keep your enemies closer" argument for why Putin tolerates Prigozhyn's criticism is easily rebutted by one word: Navalny. A better argument is that Prigozhyn avoids criticizing Putin, and instead criticizes Russian generals and the minister of defense, who are people who Putin too might someday want to blame for the poor situation in Ukraine.
