Can the UK achieve its offshore wind target?

The government has secured contracts to build Europe's largest wind farm.

It would see 9.6 gigawatts (GW) of renewable power delivered across 131 projects in its flagship auction for green energy schemes.

While the number of projects is a new record, previous auctions have brought more capacity. In 2022, the Government announced 11GW of winning bids for various renewable technologies.

Those turbines are so impressive a monument to human engineering ingenuity.

All This So called Free energy Yet our Bills Keep Going UP! 😂😂😂

One turbine rotation can power a house for 24hrs, WOW that's impressive. That's about 8KWh's per rotation. Every rotation makes us less and less reliant on fossil fuels that will get more and more expensive to extract, and make our weather more volatile.

Offshore wind is so important. Hopefully we will achieve the goals to lower the bills!

Look at 'global wind atlas'. Offshore wind is UK's last good chance to be an exporting nation living on a surplus. We have giant offshore wind potential. Wind only works for us because we back it up with gas power stations. The obvious way forward has always been to synthesise gas (e-NG) in strong wind so our gas power stations and gas main can run NetZero. We have enough offshore wind potential to supply the continent with NetZero gas and downstream (petrol, diesel, polymers - petrochemical industry already does tis from natural gas) products. Anyone moaning about NetZero and 'the state of the country' needs to read some books and back the best possible plan we have.

Out-of-sync wind power. Useless things.

Why aren't more greener schemes publicly available. I have my own basic 1KW solar setup but that's all I can really do. I love the idea of solar but couldn't afford a five grand setup. Ideas need to be more accessible to people.

Labour promised electricity prices would not rise - yet despite natural gas prices falling back to below pre war levels renewables are continuing to push up the price of electricity

And when the wind doesn't Which zero carbon power delivery will keep the grid going? Isn't that where the critical investment should be focused.

The taxpayer is being lied to, WE ARE IN A WIND DROUGHT,
with the lowest annual wind speeds since 1979 😂
The largest NEGATIVE WIND SPEED occurred over the UK,
MORE TAXPAYERS MONEY will be needed for less power

No we don't need we have lots of these all ready the dingys thatare coming are using these as there half way point

Shame non of this provides base load. We still need half our energy from reliable sources which is only nuclear and gas. More renewables needs more baseload and back up. Wind is only a small proportion of our energy demand.

According to world wind industry experts IT DOESNT WORK on land off shore….only way off shore in key areas?
