Experimenting with Rust on Encaustic Paintings

I haven't tried this technique for several years, but adding rust to your wax paintings is so fun I knew I needed to make a video about it. There's several ways you can do, some of which work better than others. Have you ever tried experimenting with rust on encaustic paintings? How did you do it?

You can hold a magnet over the steel wool bits and draw them up 👍

Is part of the thickness in the first applications containing fibre? I was wondering if you could just soak a steel wool pad and strain it thru cheesecloth and then drop it on? If there is fibre in the heavy colour though this would dilute the effect. I love how you try such different approaches. 🤙

You said you didn’t add any wax on top of the rust so what was it you added with the moddler (brush)? Where you kinda rocked it on a little, what material was that if not wax? Trying to learn.

Vinegar and peroxide and a little salt will give you a quicker rusting solution 👍🏻

When you put the steel wool in the cup, did you leave that overnight?

Doesn't the wax melt off in very hot climates?
