Nice job. Boy, the way you (and others) dive into those ratchets fearlessly makes me envious. I'm so afraid of ruining the wrench. Thanks for posting. Watching videos like this help.

Thanks 357magdad. I now have a repaired and fully functional Snap-on 71-N 1/2" ratchet. It broke the year before last when one of the teeth broke off the ratchet gear while I was trying to remove a forklift wheel. I called Snap-on's customer service after watching your video and had a very pleasant conversation with Reo about my broken vintage model E (1944) ratchet and he sent me the same repair kit you received-at no charge. Although the new ratchet gear had more/finer teeth, it fit and works perfectly. I also installed the new ratchet selector pawl and spring with integrated pivot head (I did not need to use the new screws-LOL). Thank you for posting this video of yours as it woke me up to repairing my ratchet which was my dad's from when he had a repair garage in Oakland, CA after he returned from fighting in WWII. And thank you Snap-on.

I love the sound of a fresh lubed ratchet. That cleaned up nice. Manufacturers seem to be helpful with rebuild kits and small parts. S-K provided me a rebuild kit for my ratchet at no cost. Great job. Thanks for the fun. 🤠

Cool Ratchet, I really like the look and style of it! And you defeating the ball and spring as you did was worth the admissions fee 🤠👍 nice!

That is a sweet old ratchet! I bought a 1949 version (round handle, same head) out of the used junk pile on a SO truck for $15. The dealer said it was WW2 so not covered by warranty. When I pointed out that the war ended in 1945 he promptly put a new kit in it, and I still love using it 20 years later!

Good job. I adore snap on and the history of that company. I have a 1963 and 1970 ratchet. That 1945 can go another 70 years no problem. Snap on makes multi generational tools, I use mine all the time.

Great job getting that pawl back in. I haven’t worked on any Snap-on ratchets, only Craftsman. I’m really surprised Snap-On still provides kits. The wrench turned out so well! 🔧

Great cleanup of a fine old ratchet. Good for another 100 years. That was good thinking about contacting Snap On for replacement screw . I probably would have tried the local hardware store then been frustrated when they didn't have the right screw. Regarding the cadmium plating, I have some old wrenches that say "wartime finish" and are also thinner than normal. But they are very serviceable.
