Out of all the casting videos on youtube, and I've seen all of them, I've never seen someone make a crucible. Nice work!

I love how you made the crucible. Which metal are the toys made of? Aluminium? Pewter?

Awesome. I've been wanting to do metal casting. Where did you get the casting sand from?

Excellent video, never seen anyone make a crucible. What is the life expectancy of your homemade crucible?

The die-cast cars are usually made out of zinc. When melting one should be wary not to overheat it as it tends to boil and is toxic in the long run. It's also pretty easy to mistake zinc for aluminum and vise versa. Parts cast from zinc are more brittle and a little harder on the surface. So the files generally skate a bit more and zinc usually breaks before bending unlike aluminum. You can find it in motor casings or stuff like bathroom armatures (usually coated with chrome after casting).
