A big welcome into my life! I am a Dan from the UK and I have #Aspergers Syndrome or #ASD which is a form of Autism, often referred to as High Functioning Autism or #Autism Spectrum Disorder. I make videos every week on my journey and offer tips and tricks to help everyone who has Autism.

I also have help videos for helping people get a diagnosis of Autism or Aspergers Syndrome, and also some advise and help for anyone who is friends, partners or loved ones who suffer from Autism or Aspergers Syndrome and just about anyone on the Autism Spectrum.

I'm a female in her last year of high school, and for the past year and a half, I have been suspicious that I have Asperger. I have been studying, researching, and talking to other aspies and autistic people, and it has only hardened my resolve, as I find incredible and frequent similarities between us. I use your videos as help to. This week I'm going to talk to my first psychologist, and while I made sure it was a woman, I'm still nervous. I just wanted to say thank you, and wish me luck!

This is really hard for females to do. Unfortunately there are biases in the medical and mental health professions that prevent women from receiving the correct diagnosis of ASD. Over the past 15 years I've been diagnosed - and TREATED for - Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Bipolar II Disorder, PTSD and more. Sadly these are all very common MIS-diagnoses for women on the spectrum. What worries me most about this is the medication we are prescribed for these disorders we do not have.

I'm 43 and always knew something was wrong comparatively to other people. I finally met someone who said they had ASD few years ago and I did a little research and thought I could relate. I asked her if she thought I could and she said she thought so. Later, my boss, a very smart lady said she knew I had it because her son does. I was glad I had an answer but still didn't fully accept it (because I don't like labels). After learning a little more I'm convinced I do. I'm glad that I am coming across these videos and finding people to relate to. When I first looked into it the only thing I could find was for children. I'm wondering if an "official" diagnosis would help. I feel like I have forced myself to play the part and can appreciate trying to step out of my ASD (which sounds like it isn't possible, but I think we still have to grow in spite of having extra challenges). If I take an online test now not sure it would indicate because of the many years of doing what everyone else does. Also, I think there may be some aspects of ASD that are very pronounced in me, while some traits are hardly there.

I, a female, agree with K's Thought Palace's comment below. My (female) psychologist who I was seeing to treat depression almost immediately diagnosed me with ASD, which I didn't know I had but it didn't surprise me - in fact I was relieved to finally know what was "wrong" with me. But when I went to get a formal diagnosis for work purposes from a (male) psychiatrist (at the only place that does adult testing anywhere near me), they said that I'm not on the spectrum, because - get this - I drove myself to the testing, made eye contact, and scored high on the intelligence tests they did on me. The psychiatrist talked to me for only 5 minutes and asked no pertinent questions. I know I'm on the spectrum even though the psychiatrist is living in the dark ages.

my son is recently diagnosed and I'm now realizing that maybe I genetically transferred it to him. I'm 29 and scored 41 on 3 different online tests. thinking back to my childhood all of the signs are there. I called my mom and asked why she never had me tested. She said what you said there just weren't tests back then for it. I was however tested for a learning disability and that came back boarderline but that I was actually too smart to be put into a learning disabled class. finding your videos recently has been a huge help so thank you very much. knowing what I know now though I get even more uncomfortable in social settings because I worry if people can tell or should I just tell them why I'm different or why I can't do certain things. I could go on and on and on but I'll stop now.

I scored 33 in the AQ test and I already have a lot of lists of symptoms (a few...probably like 10 A4 pages compiled from various sources) and I've also talked to my partner and my best friend. but I am SUPER SCARED of seeking a diagnosis because of my parents who know basically nothing about autism and they don't seem to want to listen to me when I mention autism, and because of the system we have in Austria where people know very little in general concerning Autism in women.
anyhow, good useful video, thank you!!!

A few questions for you to address in future videos:

1) Were you worried/concerned before doing the first online test about what the results may indicate?

2) How did your closest friends treat you once you mentioned having Aspergers?

3) Did finding out that you have Aspergers provide a kind or sort of relief to you?

Thanks!  Have a great week!

This was an excellent video. I forwarded it to my friends from the government who are working on early detection of Asperger's. I think this'll help a lot. Thank you so much.

Oh my goodness! I will be 30 soon, and we are just now realizing that I have probably lived with Asbergers all this time. I've had a difficult life, but there has always been some other (more likely) explanation for every little quirk or outburst or breakdown. I have always been viewed as the unruly (or defiant) child of the family who refused to conform, or obey tradition. We're still exploring all possibilities but everything I am seeing here gives me so much relief, it's insane. Anxiety used to be the biggest struggle of my life and I could never properly explain what I was so scared of, and my inability to talk about it caused me to go my entire life without any medical help. I've lost a lot of family, lost so many friends, and got to the lowest point when I lost my job a few years ago and didn't have anywhere to go, got hit by a car and broke my neck. I got my body back to a manageable point and almost made a full recovery, I'm now employed and got back on my feet, but my mind is still struggling to heal. I feel exhausted mentally... not like you just ran five miles and you're tired, I'm just exhausted to my very core. Reading some of these comments and watching these videos make me think that it's going to be okay. Sorry for the long comment but I guess I needed to get that out. Thank you for sharing your journey!! It's important for people to know that they aren't the only ones.

Thanks for your video clips which I do watch with interest. In November 2014, I went to a see specialist doctor about ADHD. During our first appointment, he proposed to refer me for an autism spectrum disorder assessment / diagnosis. So now I'm waiting to be seen. Thanks to my doctor's help and me now finding out about aspergers, things are starting to make more sense now....

Hey there, sorry I did not get your name in the video. I want to thank you for sharing this with us. I am a special needs teacher from South Africa and I have a Grade R class with 13 children, all on the spectrum. I would love to hear some stories from your childhood. I do not have aspergers or autism, but I am fascinated by it. I always tell my little ones that they have a super power. In so many ways they surpass my expectations and all of them are blessed with the most incredible talents. Please keep posting videos. I know they would all love to meet you.

My best wishes, Roelien.

Im also 26 and was diagnosed at age 7 but my parents didn't tell me I had it until I was 15 but I always knew I had something even when I was younger. Even at 5 I knew I was 'different' but more people get diagnosed now and I know a few people who have it in my area and suspected people to have had it before they even told me lol

Leave it to someone on the spectrum to self diagnose themselves only to find out EVERYONE around you knew but too afraid to say something and offend you. How can we stop this? I am so much better off understanding my behaviors bc they are little clues to how I am doing and what could potentially be coming. This could stop many unnecessary outbursts causing harm to relationships with friends and family. I am guilty of “seeing” someone and wanting to do the secret handshake haha but I was afraid they would get offended bc maybe they don’t understand anything on the autism spectrum. Thank you thank you sir for your content

I'm 26 and I'm sure I have aspergers also but I haven't been diagnosed. Do you also have problems with spacial awareness? I read that many people with aspergers also have dyspraxia which I believe I have and it causes me to have trouble with driving.

Excellent work as always 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I am having a very bad time at the moment. Really finding work, family life and just day to day life in general very very difficult with my Aspergers. We recently tried planning a weekend break but I just couldn't handle it and ended up having full blown meltdown at the planning the packing stage 😞😞😞😟😟😟

I wasn't diagnosed until I was about 48.

After telling my mother she said, "I knew something was wrong with you.  When you were a child, I kept taking you to psychiatrists and no one would believe me."

Wow that video upload was quite a few years ago, but doesn't feel like it! I did some of these online tests and got really high scores, the AQ test i got 42 an average F with ASD was 36.2, on the RDOS test I scored an amazing 161/200 so i have signed up with a gp as recently relocated and just secured an address and I have now been able to start the process of getting a referral etc
