Edifier Stax S3: Not Your Typical $400 Headphones..

The drawbacks are.. 1. no AAC codec or adjustable EQ settings, despite that fact that the classical mode sounds amazing already! 2. The design is average in my opinion, with some plastic-y feeling at times. Last but not least, its just under a steep 400 dollars and for that amount there are many good alternatives too. If you’re not an iPhone user who fancies a planar magnetic headphone, this will give you a great start in the high-end headphones market.

I just got my Stax Spirit S3. The moment you play your favorite track you immediately realize these are special. What you once thought were great headphones don't seem so great anymore. These headphones deliver clean, clear, crisp, accurate, rich audio. These are awesome, you'll never go back to your old headphones again.

PS - it supports AAC.

Great video. Have never tested planar headphones however the technology seems very interesting. Nice to see Edifier embracing this.

mmmh, genuine lamb leather is an imitation leather? first time i heard that x) (and yes these have lamb leather cushions and headband wrap)

nice review anyway (also price of these is not an issue ... they have the same price of the, discontinued, Audeze LCD-1 which were wired and open back and also the same build, fitting for a successor who offer even more hehe.)

I've never thought that i will see Stax branding again. As for planar magnetic to come under thousands of dollars is madness by Edifier (in a good manner)

needs to be electrically ON to be used cably...mmm no. no other planar magnetic headphone needs that. and the posibility to use cable is precisely for when batt goes dead, a big fault here, i have edifier w855db (not planar) plug cable and thats it.., , i guess ill wait for the S5 they said these s3 are the first of a line. i also need LDAC, i know most planar magnetic need big nice amplification (have some) thats why i have my nice headphone amp, i guess these S3 are for people who dont know planar headphones. mmm thanks for the video and info.
