You know Magnus respects you when he’s only a minute late

For anyone still unclear on the tournament format, this is called a "double elimination" bracket.
Generally speaking, everyone starts in the winners bracket (unless there is some round prior to the main bracket like a Swiss or Round Robin, or some external criterion that impacts the bracket) and you are not eliminated from the tournament until you lose twice in the bracket. Losing in the winners bracket sends you to the losers bracket, where you compete against other players who have lost once, and losing in the losers bracket eliminates you. The winner of the losers bracket proceeds to the grand final to face the winner of the winners bracket. Because the winners-side grand finalist is undefeated, the losers-side grand finalist must defeat the winners-side player twice to win the tournament—the first of such victories is called the "bracket reset", which is the term Gotham was referring to—while the winners-side player only has to defeat the losers-side player once to win the tournament.

This format is very common in video games and is the standard for most fighting game tournaments.

Magnus has a lot of respect for Firouzja, and shows it by giving 100% against him every time. Fun to see these two play.

What is interesting to me is that Blitz Chess Magnus is rated highest at 2888, and Alireza is second rated at 2871, when you look at Rapid Chess, Magnus is rated highest at 2834, and Alireza is eleventh rated at 2742.
The 10 minutes per player, rather than less, is more of an advantage for Magnus.

Bro how this two always get the craziest games, it always makes me sure why Magnus said he wanted to defend his title only against Alireza

I always like it when GothamChess explain complex chess concepts that we beginner/intermediate players struggle to understand. I mean I don't even play chess but I always enjoy watching these chess videos and still learn.

How many chess finales does it take to be the final finale of finales?

Chess: All of them.

The first move took one minute due to technical issues, and Alireza waited for one minute in the fourth move out of respect for Magnus.

Great respect for Alireza❤🔥

Milkmen around the world should be ashamed at themselves looking at Levy and how he milks Magnus day in and day out.

Credit to Alireza; he was so close in every game, and he might be able to beat Magnus in the future
