Note: I select clips with insights from these much longer conversation with the hope of helping make these ideas more accessible and discoverable. Ultimately, this podcast is a small side hobby for me with the goal of sharing and discussing ideas. For now, I post a few clips every Tue & Fri. I did a poll and 92% of people either liked or loved the posting of daily clips, 2% were indifferent, and 6% hated it, some suggesting that I post them on a separate YouTube channel. I hear the 6% and partially agree, so am torn about the whole thing. I tried creating a separate clips channel but the YouTube algorithm makes it very difficult for that channel to grow unless the main channel is already very popular. So for a little while, I'll keep posting clips on the main channel. I ask for your patience and to see these clips as supporting the dissemination of knowledge contained in nuanced discussion. If you enjoy it, consider subscribing, sharing, and commenting.

Michio Kaku is a theoretical physicist, futurist, and professor at the City College of New York. He is the author of many fascinating books on the nature of our reality and the future of our civilization.

Don't worry about aliens destroying us, we are doing a good job of destroying ourselves...

Enjoy watching. Michio Kaku's ability to communicate difficult subjects to something that an ordinary person can understand. Not many Physicists are able to do this.

Depends if they watched Fox news or CNN on the way over....

The arts would be the most important, self expression. I'd love to hear what kind of music aliens have created, what they're great stories and history are like. That's what would make us unique, anything we know that is science based would be primitive to them, but our stories and music would impress them.

i feel the same about people to. they are all in my way

Maybe the Aliens would just watch quietly to enjoy the creative aspects of humanity? Just imagine the aliens up there all binge watching Breaking Bad or listening to all the music we've created. 😂

I agree that aliens probably wouldn’t need to take material resources from our world. if you have the technology to travel vast distances quickly (by folding reality and poping through, or who knows how) then you could get raw materials anywhere. But we really have no idea how unique we humans and our planet may or may it be. We could be fascinating for any number of reasons. We’ve no way of knowing.

I agree with Kaku that there is nothing we have that ET's would want but further...

If they could travel such vast distances to get here, that means they have learned to live in harmony with each other enough to focus their efforts outside their day-to-day needs.

So, they are not only technologically advanced, they must also be socially and morally advanced in order to not destroy themselves (like we humans are about to!)

Hence, the only reason why they are here (and they are!) is to study us and maybe nudge us in advancing as a species.

Nothing to offer them? What about real estate? Besides what treasures can we not yet conceive of? Whether that‘s an element or a species condition hard to replicate.

Dr. Kaku always has an objective look and a realistic look when assessing the cosmos. For the most part he is a very positive fellow with a great sense of humor which is necessary in a field where all his peers are generally flat emotion types. Alien races needs are likely very different from ours. They might have transcended dimensions too so space and time mean nothing to them. When you look at the planet it is obvious it was designed to be an experiment of some sort. Everything on earth is consumed over time to make way for other species or advancements. There does not seem to be any favoritism to any species as even we are prone to die in any number of ways. I don't know what is out there but there is something. What that is will eventually over time become clear.

If you have a mind open enough to understand that we can't be the only life in the universe, then you must also be smart enough to understand that we can't be the first, considering that we are only a young specie compared to the age of our galaxy, let alone that of this universe, or other possible universes. On some planets, maybe even suns(yes, I said Sun - who told you that all lives are corporals) their might be better conditions for life - some form of it we might not even comprehend. While you ask the question when will we discover Alien lives, you also ask the following: Have we already been discovered?

What if: He actually speaks for the aliens to make us lower our guards down.

Aren't you noticing something weird about his face?

I disagree with the great doctor on ONE point, that we have nothing of interest to aliens.
There are 2 things we have here that WE have never seen in the universe:
Chlorophyll.
Proteins.
Plant life and meat. What if it were very rare?! Isn't that enough to ponder a REASON for coming here?

Gold actually has some important uses. It's why the James Webb Space Telescope is coated with it. It's why you can find it in electronics.

Aliens would likely be just as interested in us as we are them. Even if they didn't have a use for our technology, they would probably want to experiment with it. It's even possible that we made discoveries that they missed along the way due to necessity.

If there's an alien species with high mental capacity like humans, why would poetry mean nothing to them? Makes no sense.

The same way we’re fascinated by aliens, the aliens would be fascinated by us. I highly doubt they will destroy us, that’s the fault of movies depicting them as evil creatures.

The question lies in difference between us and them. Could there be enough space faring organisms that a portion of them are similar enough to us in whatever ways matter to study, observe or use us? Why assume every advanced civilization has everything figured out too? There’s a larger mountain of knowledge to attain just behind every peek we have achieved thus far.

I think which is more plausible aliens coming to earth are humans from the future
