Could the reflection in these shades help me pinpoint the exact location of this photo?

Geo detective is back with a long overdue mountain photo sent in by Ian Clutterbuck. Will the shape of the mountain along with the ones in the distance be enough for me to locate it on google earth? or will the reflection in Ian's shades offer an important clue?

Generally selfies automatically flip the photo because of the front facing camera. Or, more likely, Ian cast a most diabolical scheme that the wizard almost effortlessly reversed.

Tom, front cameras on phones usually mirror the image so that might explain why the image appeared flipped.

When you take photos on your phone with the selfie camera, it flips the image left-to-right. Probably wasn't intentional deception. Keep this in mind with possible future selfie pictures.

I looked up the print on his t-shirt to confirm that it was a mirror image. I recognized that it is from the Breath of the Wild Zelda game. It is indeed flipped. Probably because he took the pic in selfie mode.

Lol, I had the idea that it might be flipped from early on in the vid. It struck me that there were several lake/mountain combos that would have worked better if the image were flipped. Also, the left-handed selfie was another nice clue. It's too bad that there wasn't any lettering that you could have used do decipher that earlier.

As another clue, you might notice that the people in the reflection in the original photo are using their right arms to do something. Reflected, this would mean that they were actually using their left arms. Now, obviously, people often use their non-dominant limbs, but we can safely say that three people all using their left hands at the same time is statistically unlikely, given that maybe 80% of us are right-handed, and we do most things that require one hand with our dominant one.
To be fair, though, I didn't think of this clue until after I watched the video. It was more of a search for corroborating evidence.

The land formation you were looking for is called a “corrie” but bowl with a lake also sounds good.

The reason Cadair Idris seems to have two names is Penygader is what the highest point is called, the mountain in it's entirety is Cadair Idris (The Chair of Idris, Idris being a giant in Welsh folklore)

you can see ian is using his "left" hand to take the photo. of course, it's possible ian is just left-handed, but that chance is just 1 in 10. much lower, actually, because camera phones aren't symmetrical, so many left-handed people still take photos with their right hand because the release button would be in a weird place.

you can flip (invert) images directly where you are, Tom. just click "Crop" icon on the top center (the last one) then "Invert" on the right panel. dont need to save the file if you are just doing a quick check.
