Pixie Transceiver, 300 mWatts on Cedar Mountain

I hike to the summit of Ceder Mountain W7A/SC-029 for another Summits on the Air (SOTA) excursion. For this one, I brought along my QRPP Pixie transceiver for a field test. While it is rated at 300mW the output does vary. I measured 275mW on the bench. I was able to work 2 contacts with the Pixie, Josh WU7H and Bud N7CW.

After the Pixie test I worked through the bands on CW and then there at the end I worked some SSB.

That’s such a beautiful area and so pleasant to hike in. Not too brushy but there is shade. I have considered a Pixie solely for the purpose of having a backup transceiver. I have learned from experience that things go wrong. So I have a backup of everything except a transceiver and power supply.

Looked like a fine day, and your pixie is super rad. Seems to have a minor flatulence problem though 😂😂 but it's always amazing to me that you can put together a bunch of electronic components in your garage and talk to far away places. 73 Red!

Love the little round cactus. I also like the way you put the QRZ picture in there. I'm guessing it's a bit more work. I'm going to have to try the voice recorder. It's definitely more work to sync it in. I overdrove it the first time, and then couldn't hear the side-tone when on Escudilla butte.

I have 4-5 pixie's - I bought a bunch of 40m crystals on different freq's. so I was not stuck at 7.023 mhz... NOW - I need to learn CW !

Very nice...I personally prefer the Pixe v4 because it has a side tone and it has pin connectors for the power and Antenna connector. I will be building the rock mite...the frog sounds...the 49er...the cricket 40 and a few others and trying them out. DE W9TIT
